ONE Championship breaks off talks with Ngannou

May 1, 2023 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The South China Morning Post reports that ONE Championship is no longer pursuing Francis Ngannou after a three-hour meeting in Los Angeles.  ONE Championship is set to hold its first U.S. event May 5th in Colorado.

Ngannou, a free-agent since last January is still soliciting offers for his services.  Chtri Sityodtong told SCMP via text that it decided to withdraw.

Previously, BKFC, Bellator and PFL have looked into securing the former UFC Heavyweight champion.  Ngannou is also looking at boxing as an option as well.

Payout Perspective:

Is the 36-year-old asking for too much in looking for a new home?  One would think he would have secured a new home by now but it’s clear that the asking price (whether its monetary or otherwise) may be too much. Perhaps Ngannou is looking for a short-term deal, a big guarantee or something else but all of the combat sports promotions are holding steady thus far.  One might foresee a one-off boxing promotion for Ngannou next to get the payday he seeks.
