WWE talent allowed back on Twitch after compromise

April 21, 2023 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

WWE and Twitch reached a deal in which wrestlers are allowed to stream on Twitch with “almost no restrictions.”  There was a prior ban by WWE which forbid wrestling talent from appearing on third party platforms.

WWE talent are independent contractors and made ancillary money through Twitch streams. However, in the fall of 2020, Vince McMahon announced that WWE wrestlers could not use their name or likenesses on third party platforms.

The new deal allows for wrestler to return to Twitch and the split between WWE and Twitch allows for the talent to receive the same amount of compensation as any other streamer on the platform.

Payout Perspective:

While this might seem like a miniscule business note, the Twitch streams are an extra benefit for WWE talent to grow their brand and fandom.  Of course, since WWE helped market and cultivat the talent, they wanted a cut of the proceeds.  I would surmise that this deal includes some guardrails for talent to keep it PG and not go into anything too controversial which may upset WWE’s brand or its business partners.  Still, a good deal for the talent.
