The Sports Business Journal reports that Dana White is planning to expand Power Slap League in addition to moving into boxing.
Despite the poor ratings on TBS and the news that it will move online to Rumble TV, White indicated that the venture has a “considerable social media presence.” More importantly, White said that investors were “blown away.”
The SBJ also reports that White has been working to put together a boxing promotion that he hopes to launch “within the next 12-24 months.” For some years, White has toyed with Zuffa Boxing to gain a foothold into the sport. But for one reason or another, he has not pulled the trigger on the venture. Yet, he did with Power Slap.
White seemed to dabble in boxing when Conor McGregor fought Floyd Mayweather, Jr. but there was no follow-up despite the big PPV success.
Payout Perspective:
“Blown away” seems like projection rather than reality. White is not giving up on this Power Slap venture and the social media for the UFC used its channels to promote Power Slap. Could we see White’s foray into boxing tied to Power Slap as well? Or, was this announcement a means to once again keep Power Slap in the media cycle.
