Dana White’s ‘Power Slap’ League debut will occur on Wednesday, January 18th according to a New York Post report. The delay is due to White’s video which shows him slapping his wife.
After silence from TBS and other partners associated with the UFC head including Disney, ESPN and Endeavor, the new league created by White will air a week after its prior opening date.
White and his wife both expressed remorse for the incident in Cabo on New Year’s Eve. White has given lengthier quotes to ESPN and TMZ about the incident.
The debut of White’s ‘Power Slap’ league just a little over a week after the video shows him slapping his wife seemed like a PR nightmare. And while original speculation looked like the entire show was in jeopardy, it looks like the show will go forward.
Payout Perspective:
This schedule announcement could still change but I assume that they’ve shot some, if not all, of the episodes for the show. So, from this standpoint you can understand why TBS wants to see if it could salvage the costs sunk into this. But, if the debut does not do well and if there is vocal opposition, it could still be canceled. It looks like TBS will try to use the whole ‘let time blow this over’ approach to dealing with White’s altercation.
