Commission to discuss Anderson Silva prior to Paul fight

October 27, 2022 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Steve Marroccco of MMA Fighting first reported that the Arizona Boxing and MMA Commission is meeting on Thursday night regarding Anderson Silva.  The meeting relates to an interview he gave in which he stated he was knocked out twice during sparring in leadup to his fight with Jake Paul.

The AZ Boxing & MMA Commission is meeting tomorrow at 6:30pm regarding Anderson Silva, the AZ Gaming Department just emailed me.

Also, more from Marc Raimondi.

The Arizona Boxing & MMA Commission will meet tonight to determine Anderson Silva’s “eligibility to compete” against Jake Paul on Saturday, per the commission. This stems from Silva telling MMA Weekly that he was knocked out twice in training, remarks Silva has since walked back.

The commission meeting was first reported last night by @MMAFightingSM. An Arizona public information officer told ESPN this morning that the athletic commission will "review additional documentation submitted" by Silva this week.

Silva has said this week that he misspoke in the interview because English is not his native language and he was only joking about it anyway. The interview was also from last month and only released earlier this week.

Payout Perspective:

I do not believe the fight will be cancelled but it definitely gives pause to what could happen if the commission were to inquire more into Silva’s training and if he was knocked out. Silva is 47 years old so the commission wants to make sure he is healthy enough to fight on Saturday. With a meeting occurring so late prior to the event, its hard to think that the commission would put a halt to the event unless there were visible signs that Silva was hurt.
