UK boxing heavyweight Daniel Dubois has sued Don King for not paying him for his June 2022 fight against Trevor Bryan.
King paid $3.1 million for the right to secure the rights to the fight which was to be a 55/45 split between the fighter and Bryan with Dubois opponent receiving the 55 percent.
According to the Complaint which was filed in Broward County, Florida, Don King Productions agreed to pay DuBois $1.402,200.45 for the fight against Bryan but has not per DuBois.
The British Boxing Boxing Board of Control contacted the WBA and the Florida Athletic Commission about the nonpayment and DuBois retained a Florida law firm to notify the WBA and King.
King and the WBA are already in a lawsuit with German heavyweight Mahmoud Charr regarding the promoter’s alleged manipulation of rankings and the sanctioning bodies agreement to go along with the scheme. The lawsuit, filed on August 1, has yet to receive a public response from King or his representatives.
Payout Perspective:
Not a surprise to many in the boxing business that King is mired in another legal dispute. While we should hold off to see what King has to say about the situation, it appears that the money has yet to appear in DuBois account. DuBois did knockout King’s fighter, Bryan, in the fourth round of their fight this past June. MPO will continue to follow this one.
