The Sports Business Journal reports that the UFC will be adding original content to its digital platform Fight Pass including the Sklar Brothers new show, ‘Nosebleeds.’
The Sklar Brothers involvement will include the show, ‘Nosebleeds.’ The comedic duo discussing old UFC fights as the two did on the popular ESPN Classic show years back. It will be a six-episode series and one can expect comedic commentary during the fights.
The tie-in here to Jason and Randy redoing the old show is that UFC VP & GM of Fight Pass Crowley Sullivan used to run ESPN Classic.
In addition to ‘Nosebleeds’ the UFC will introduce a new UFC Fight Pass Podcast Central which will feature 10 shows with more to come. There will be a show for gamblers, one about fighters’ love lives and a fight analysis show featuring Jon Anik.
UFC Fight Pass has grown despite live events moving to ESPN in the U.S. Fight Pass subscriptions are up 30% in revenue from the prior year and subs have grown 25% in the past year while total revenue was up 21%.
Payout Perspective:
You may conclude that subscriptions went up during the pandemic as everyone stayed at home and needed something to watch. However, the platform continues to succeed. The new content will bring more casual viewers to Fight Pass as it diversifies its offerings. The podcast network will take advantage of the huge following many of the pods have and put them in one place. One might expect that the move will raise production costs which will mean a subscription fee rise in the next year or so. Also, there could be potential for the sale of the network once it is going in the future.
