The Gervonta “Tank” Davis- Rolly Romero PPV drew 250K buys with a projected total of “about 275,000 for the Showtime PPV” according to sources from Dan Rafael. The buys are from linear PPV and does not include digital.
The event, which took place this past Saturday, had a price point of $79.99 on satellite and cable providers as well as the Showtime App as well as other digital platforms. Davis KO’d Romero in their lightweight showdown.
The event also was a sell-out with 18,970 reported in attendance at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Per Rafael, it was the best showing on PPV for Davis which has averaged slightly over 200K buys on PPV.
Payout Perspective:
The PPV number likely is due to the lack of competition on Memorial Day weekend. No UFC and no other events to distract combat sports fans. Also, the hype and trash talk for this fight was major as both Davis and Romero traded insults coming up to the fight. The PPV shows the growing popularity of Davis and the ability for Showtime to promote a fighter in the lighter weight divisions.
