UFC 274 took place on Saturday and the Sports Business Journal is reporting that the PPV sold 400,000 units on ESPN+. The event went up against DAZN’s first PPV featuring Canelo Alvarez.
UFC 274 took place at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The event featured two title fights including Justin Gaethje challenging for Charles Oliviera’s lightweight title. As we know, the titleholder lost his championship on the scale after failing to make weight. However, Oliviera did earn a second-round submission victory over Gaethje.
.@ESPNPlus sold more than 400,000 U.S. PPV units for #UFC274 Saturday night @FootprintCNTR, its best performance of the year so far, per SBJ sources.

Carla Esparza won the UFC women’s strawweight title after she defeated Rose Namajunas in their fight.
Notably, sources obtained the buy rates rather swiftly as opposed to the previous two PPVs which have not produced numbers yet.
Payout Perspective:
400K PPV buys is very good if you were to look at the card and realized that none of the UFC’s top draws were not on it. It was sold more on the title fights than the names on the card. Considering the numbers are based on North American sales, we cannot deduce that it was based on Oliveira’s popularity in Brazil. But it might go to the matchup with Gaethje combined that could have sold the event. Going up against Canelo on DAZN is really a good number and the speed of getting this information out also shows that the company wanted to flex its power.
