Kayla Harrison re-signs with PFL, creates acrimony with Bellator

March 11, 2022 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Earlier this week, Kayla Harrison re-signed with the PFL and will compete in the league’s women’s lightweight division.  Harrison is a two-time winner of the $1M prize.

It appeared that Harrison was close to leaving the organization as Bellator MMA was on the heels of the former Olympian as the signing would have meant a potential showdown with Cris “Cyborg” Justino.  However, it appears that Harrison may have had a matching clause in her PFL contract as whatever Bellator offered, PFL was willing to match it.

The inability to sign Harrison may have caused a stir between the two organizations.

Hey @ScottCoker … who is @criscyborg fighting over there at @BellatorMMA? 🤔😂

To settle this nonsense:

What about Bellator and Cyborg?https://t.co/6j5JIUFeJ0

The acrimonious tweet came after Scott Coker commented that he did not know who Harrison would fight after she had a very easy time in her first two seasons in the PFL.

For Harrison, the renewal is not a bad thing for her career. While she is not facing the top competition in the world of women’s lightweights, she is not getting damaged in her fights and is collecting top dollar in her sport. There may be a time where she will want to venture outside of the PFL, but as for now, she is doing fine.
