Queensbury Promotions lands Fury-Whyte fight

Frank Warren’s Queensbury Promotions won the purse bid for Tyson Fury’s next fight on Friday morning per ESPN. Warren, Fury’s co-promoter, bested Eddie Hearn’s bid to hold Fury’s defense of the WBC heavyweight title.

Warren bid $41,025,000 for the opportunity to put on the event. Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing offered $32,222,222.

Fury will receive 80% of the purse which equates to $31,938 with Whyte receiving $7,984,500. The winner will receive a bonus of $4.1 million

Whyte had filed a lawsuit this past fall in an attempt to get the fight versus Fury. The lawsuit was quickly settled with the assumption that the parties were negotiating this fight and/or offering Whyte ‘step aside’ money.

There was a package to offer money for Whyte and Anthony Joshua in order for Fury to fight Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia although those plans fell through. Now, Whyte will get a chance at Fury with the anticipated date being in April in the U.K.
