PFL renews media deal with ESPN

January 25, 2022 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Deadline reports that the Professional Fighters League deal with ESPN has been extended another year with an option for another.

The 2022 PFL season will commence on ESPN in April with the promotion’s content airing on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN+. Events will also run on ESPN Deportes and TSN. It appears that more PFL events/content will air on ESPN as opposed to this past year which had most PFL live events airing on ESPN2. The deal goes through the end of 2023 with an option to extend although the report did not state how long.

The Deadline report also states that it would “push into pay-per-view.”

PFL CEO Pete Murray stated that revenue is expected to quadruple from 2021 to 2022.

In addition to PFL on ESPN, it is also adding PFL Challengers on FuboTV which shall serve as a show for up and coming fighters which starts next month. The athletes will compete for a chance to participate in the PFL regular season or a developmental deal.

Payout Perspective:

Good news for the PFL which will be on ESPN which should give it the best chance of receiving more eyes on its product which in term can boost its sponsorship revenue. Of course, the key is signing fighters that people will notice for the upcoming season. We will see if they attempt to sign recent UFC castoffs or find a diamond in the rough that it could groom for the program. The biggest signee for the organization is the rumors that Kayla Harrison is coming back again which would be great for the company.

Yes, the Pulitzer-winning journalist is the source we should ignore, not the people who continue to want access to the LA sports team they cover. This was a dumb thing to think and an even dumber thing to tweet.
