Top Rank Boxing drew 1.019 million viewers on Saturday night as ESPN featured the return of Vasiliy Lomachenko as he faced Richard Comney. The telecast beat the UFC 269 Prelims which aired on ESPN2 earlier in the evening.
Top Rank Boxing was 3rd overall in the cable ratings Saturday night for its 3-hour show and the UFC Prelims were 4th overall.
It drew 387,000 viewers in the A18-49 demo, 0.30 in A18-49, 0.21 in F18-49, 0.38 in M18-49, 0.21 in A18-34, 0.15 in F12-34, 0.22 in M12-34, 0.38 in A25-54 and 0.50 in over 50.
Top Rank had the Heisman Trophy Presentation as a lead-in and it did help as the presentation drew 1.845 million viewers on ESPN good enough for first overall in cable.
The ratings reflect a resurgence in boxing as there have been several good cards and fighters that have been televised. Lomachenko’s return from his upset loss last year to Teofimo Lopez was highly anticipated in boxing circles.
Payout Perspective:
Saturday was a big night for boxing as Showtime held a card in addition to Top Rank and the UFC PPV. Notably, Top Rank inched slightly better than the UFC in A18-49 (0.30 v 0.27 and of course better in the over 50 with 0.50 v. 0.28 in that demo).
