The PFL Championship last week scored 166,000 viewers on ESPN 2 per Nielsen via ShowBuzz Daily. The viewership was low considering it was the finale of the company’s season.
In addition to awarding the $1M checks to all winners in the divisions, Claressa Shields had her second MMA fight. In an upset of sorts, Shields lost to Abigail Montes via split decision.
The winners for each division are as follows:
Featherweight: Movlid Khaybulaev
Lightweight: Raush Manfio
Welterweight: Ray Cooper III
Light Heavyweight: Antonio Carlos, Jr.
Heavyweight: Bruno Cappelozza
Women’s Lightweight: Kayla Harrison
Payout Perspective:
This was an interesting season for the PFL as it was headlined by some former UFC stars (Rory MacDonald, Anthony Pettis) yet they did not make it through to the finals. The ratings for the PFL have been down all this season despite a lot of promotion. This should be a concern for the company. Of course, having the finals on a weeknight and being on ESPN’s secondary channel cannot help. With the company aiming toward another media rights deal in the near future we should keep an eye on its plans for the future.
