Report: Wilder-Fury III draws almost 600K PPV buys

October 17, 2021 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury fight on October 12th drew “just under” 600K PPV buys in the US and another 300K in international PPV.  The report would seem to conclude that the trilogy did not live up to expectations on PPV.

The third fight between Wilder and Fury saw the heavyweight champ successfully defend his belt against the former titleholder.  Their first fight drew 325,000 buys while the rematch in February 2020 drew 850,000 buys.  Bob Arum hoped to have this fight hit one million PPV buys.

However, if the report is correct, it would seem that the event fell short of the goal.

The fight between the two had been on and off and delayed from July 2021 to October.  Wilder had to file for arbitration in an effort to retain the right for the third fight.  Despite the long road to the fight happening, the actual fisticuffs did not disappoint with 5 Knockdowns (3 from Wilder and 2 from Fury) with the champ retaining the title by stopping Wilder.
