The International Boxing Federation has found Triller in default of its contractual obligations to hold the Teofimo Lopez-George Kambosos fight and the rights have gone to Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing. The ruling likely will set off lawsuits from the participants involved against the upstart boxing promotion.
Triller attempted to move the date from Monday, October 4th to Saturday, October 16th however it did not gain approval from Kambosos. The attorney for Kambosos lodged a complaint about Triller and it appears that the IBF believes that there was merit. Notably, the ruling states that both fighters must agree in writing to change the date of the bout.
As a result of the default, Triller has lost $1.2M dollars in its deposit for the bout with Lopez receiving $900K and Kambosos $300K for the debacle. Now, their fight will take place on DAZN as a result of the fight going to Matchroom Boxing which has a deal with the streaming platform.
Payout Perspective:
It appears that Triller will appeal the decision for its lost deposit but this mismanagement has cost its deposit on Madison Square Garden (where the October 4th fight was to take place) and likely the Barclay’s Center (where the October 16th fight was to happen). Not to mention the fact that Lopez and Kambosos will sue them for breach of contract among other issues. Its not a good look for Triller and may be the downfall for the company.
