Mike Coppinger of ESPN reports that the Triller’s Teofimo Lopez-George Kambosos fight will be moved from Monday, October 4th at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden to October 16th at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The change is pending agreement from the challenger Kambosos.
The event has had a long and winding path thus far. First, Triller winning the purse bid for Lopez’s first title defense was a surprise. It had set the fight for the first weekend in June but was upended by the Floyd Mayweather-Logan Paul exhibition. It was then scheduled for the following weekend but then was moved once again when Lopez came down with COVID-19. The fight was thought to have been moved to August but then September but was set opposite Monday Night Football on October 4th. Assuming Kambosos agrees to the change, it will be on at Saturday night October 16th.
If the fight goes through, it will go against a UFC Fight Night that just lost its main event due to Miesha Tate testing positive for COVID-19 and a DAZN card in Fresno, California featuring Mikey Garcia’s return.
Payout Perspective:
The constant movement of the event has to hurt the fighters as they prepare, not to mention the pocketbooks of Triller. For Lopez, this has to be frustrating considering he had come off his best fight as he defeated Vasiliy Lomachenko.
