Evander Holyfield is taking Triller Fight Club to arbitration as a result of the promotion’s inability to reschedule his exhibition fight with Kevin McBride.
The former Heavyweight champion filed the demand for arbitration against Triller claiming breach of contract. Holyfield was scheduled to be on the undercard of the Teofimo Lopez-George Kambosos originally set for June. However, Lopez came down with COVID-19 and the fight was postponed. The fight is now set for October with the sides clashing over the location.
Holyfield is said to be seeking more than $5 million for the fight. Triller has missed multiple deadlines according to a report from Dan Rafael.
Holyfield and McBride were set to fight in an eight-round exhibition as part of the Lopez undercard. It appears as though they will not be appearing on the rescheduled card at this time.
Payout Perspective:
It appears that Holyfield’s demand for arbitration is based on his contract with Triller which likely notes all disputes about the contract must be arbitrated. Based on speculation, it sounds as though Holyfield is in a holding pattern on his fight at this time if he is arbitrating the case so close to the Lopez-Kambosos date. This move may be a way to force Triller’s hand to reschedule Holyfield ASAP.
UPDATED: It appears that there will be no arbitration as Holyfield is now stepping in against Vitor Belfort as Oscar De La Hoya announced he was in the hospital due to the Coronavirus.
