Flyweight Juancamilo Ronderos has been assessed a one month sanction for violation of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy.
Ronderos tested positive for cocaine and its metabolite benzoylecgonine as the result of a sample collected in competition when he debuted with the UFC on May 22, 2021. Cocaine is a non-specified stimulant, is prohibited in-competition and is considered a Substance of Abuse under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy and the UFC Prohibited List.
According to the USADA release, Ronderos’ ineligibility was reduced due to the fact that he established that the violation did not enhance, and was not intended to enhance, the athlete’s performance in a Bout and they subsequently complete a drug rehabilitation program.
Payout Perspective:
The one-month sanction seems light for the offense compared to other infractions but it would seem that Ronderos showed that the cocaine use did not enhance his ability in his fight and he entered a drug rehabilitation program. Still, the news of the sanction does not look good considering it was the 26-year-olds first fight in the UFC and he lost via submission in the first round.
