Charlo-Castano fight peaks at 536K on Showtime

July 21, 2021 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The Jermell Charlo-Brian Castano fight this past Saturday night was the most-watched live boxing event on Showtime since December 19th as many fans tuned in to see the unification of the 154-pound belts.  Fans saw an exciting fight, but a draw in the end leaving questions about the possibility of a rematch.

According to Nielsen, 422,000 subscribers of Showtime watched the fight on the linear network.  Those watching on the app were not included in the viewership.  Per Boxing Scene, the fight peaked at 536,000 viewers.

The co-feature saw Rolando Romero KO Anthony Yigit.  249,000 viewers saw the fight with it peaking at 256,000.

The first fight of the night from San Antonio, Texas saw Amilcar Videl beat Immanuwel Aleem .  It drew 202,000 and peaked at 220,000.

Payout Perspective:

Charlo-Castano was one of the best fights of 2021 thus far and the hype surrounding the fight paid off as the viewership spiked for the bout.  While the numbers seem low compared to what a PBC on Fox show receives, its clear that boxing fans made it a point to tune in to this fight.
