Report: Fury-Wilder 3 July date in jeopardy due to COVID issue

July 8, 2021 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

ESPN’s Mike Coppinger reports that a COVID-19 outbreak in Tyson Fury’s camp may cause the July 24 heavyweight championship fight against Deontay Wilder to be postponed.

Coppinger spoke with Bob Arum who stated that Fury does not have COVID so there is an outside chance that the fight may go forward. If not, they are looking to move it to September.

The heavyweight trilogy is set to take place in Las Vegas on July 23rd. The much anticipated showdown is for Fury’s WBC title among a plethora of other titles. Its expected that after this fight the winner will move on to face Anthony Joshua…or at least that is what would happen if Fury wins.

Payout Perspective:

We should get a definitive statement on this news soon as we are just a couple of weeks away from the fight. This was set to be a joint ESPN/Fox PPV event with Top Rank so there is a lot of interested parties wanting to see the fight go through. If moved to September, the fight may be diluted a bit due to the return of football season. Still, when this happens, it will be a pretty big event.
