De La Hoya returns to fight Belfort in exhibition

June 21, 2021 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Last week, it was announced by The Athletic that Oscar De La Hoya will return to boxing to take on former UFC star Vitor Belfort on September 11th.  The latest return from retirement exhibition boxing match pits the 48-year-old former boxing champ against the Brazilian MMA star.

The fight will be an exhibition with 12-ounce gloves likely to take place in Las Vegas as part of a Triller PPV.  Previously, De La Hoya had announced his return this July but it appears that it was moved to September.

Belfort was scheduled to fight Mike Holston on the June 19th Triller card but that event was postponed until August 14th after Teofimo Lopez tested positive for COVID-19.

Payout Perspective:

I’m not sure how much longer this trend of ‘celebrity’ boxing events featuring retired fighters will continue, but it will if people continue to support it.  Triller has found a niche in the entertainment/sports aspect of these events and people continue to buy them.
