Boxer Teofimo Lopez tested positive for COVID-19 and this Saturday’s fight against George Kambosos will be moved to August 14th.
Triller Fight Club co-founder Ryan Kavanaugh made the announcement and announced the postponement date. Triller won the purse bid to promote this fight outdueling both Lopez and Kambosos’ promoters for the event.
The news comes 5 days before the big event which was to be held on PPV. The 23-year-old Lopez is the unified lightweight champion as he defeated Vasyl Lomachenko for the title.
The fight was originally scheduled for the first weekend in June but was moved as it was the same weekend as the Floyd Mayweather-Logan Paul exhibition.
Payout Perspective:
News of the postponement due to Lopez testing positive is a hit for Triller although there were rumors that the event was not selling as it had projected. Still, postponing the event does little to help with ticket sales. With Triller banking on PPV sales, it probably was concerned with 3 boxing PPVs in one month with Floyd-Paul and Gervonta Davis-Mario Barrios fighting next week.
