Team Alpha Male prospect Chris Gonzalez is ready for his Friday matchup against MMA veteran Roger Huerta.
“I’m super excited about it,” Gonzalez said about the matchup. “He’s someone that fighters early on looked up to, he’s accomplished a lot of great things.” Despite the accolades, Gonzalez says the fight is always business.
Like every other fighter, Gonzalez adjusted to the pandemic. “I did dips on my motorcycle, I ran hills, used resistance bands but most importantly I did not want to be a couch potato and keep my conditioning.”
Gonzalez was able to fight this past August as one of the first Bellator fighters to get back into the cage. He noted that the health and safety precautions were very professional as fighters adjusted to the “Fightsphere.”
“I say the biggest difference is the weight-cutting,” reflected Gonzalez. “Getting tested every day and a window of time to go into the gym.”
Huerta (24-12 MMA, 0-3 BMMA) presents a step up in class for Gonzalez (5-0 MMA, 4-0 BMMA). But Gonzalez does catch the veteran on a 3-fight losing streak.
Gonzalez faces Huerta on the prelims of Bellator 255 on Friday on Showtime.
