Even though he hasn’t been able to train with his mentor Jorge Masvidal, Bellator welterweight Roman Faraldo is always learning. The 4-0 Faraldo faces Trevor Gudde at Bellator 255 on Friday.
“He’s a superstar,” said Faraldo of his sometime training partner. Masvidal has kept Faraldo grounded as the Florida native begins his MMA career. “Don’t let the outside influencers affect you,” Faraldo said of the UFC welterweight’s advice, “Stay the course.”
Faraldo’s Bellator debut came off well as he defeated Pat Casey with a flying knee this past November. Ironically, the KO occurred on Masvidal’s birthday. “We’re always working to get better,” said the 27-year-old of his training praising his team at American Top Team. Faraldo moved to the gym this past October prior to his fight with Casey.
Faraldo stated that he’s been working on his grappling more. He’ll have a unique test as Faraldo faces 6 foot 7 Trevor Gudde. The “Scarecrow” sports a 77-inch reach and two stoppages in his last two fights including a TKO of Khonry Gracie in November.
He’s worked with a lot of guys that were taller at ATT in preparation for the taller opponent. Despite the length and reach advantage, Faraldo believes that he will KO Gudde.
For 2021, Faraldo says that he hopes to be 7-0 (3 fights in 2021) by the end of the year.
He faces Gudde at Bellator 255 Friday on Showtime.
