Oscar De La Hoya announces date of return to boxing

March 28, 2021 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Oscar De la Hoya announced that he is returning to the boxing ring to fight.  At the Jake Paul-Ben Askren press conference this past Friday, the former multi-division title holder stated he’ll be back on July 3rd to fight at a yet to be announced Triller Fight Club event.

According to multiple reports after De la Hoya’s announcement, he wants to fight a UFC fighter.  No names have been given, although this opponent would keep the continued pipeline of “crossover” fights between MMA-based fighters and boxers.

Triller Fight Club’s foray into boxing promotion started last year with Mike Tyson and Roy Jones, Jr. fighting in an exhibition and Jake Paul and Nate Robinson fighting on the undercard.  In April, Paul will headline a card against the former UFC/ONE MMA fighter.

Triller drew some eyes in the boxing industry as it outbid other promotions for the right to Teofimo Lopez’s first title defense.  The upstart company even outbid Lopez’s own promoter Top Rank.

Payout Perspective:

De la Hoya is 48 years old and his last fight was a loss to Manny Pacquiao 13 years ago.  He announced a comeback last year but nothing official had occurred until this past Friday.  One has to wonder what type of shape he will be in and whether this is healthy to return to this sport at such an old age.  While we’ve seen Mike Tyson return, old habits, attitudes and the inability to move on past the sport pervade.  Unfortunately, we can see this trend of old fighters returning for a shot at past glory and money continuing in 2021.

They did this for Khabib in his last fight

hayjive @hayjivepicks

Never seen such blatant corruption at a championship weigh in. Khamzat is one of the last to the scales and it takes all of 3 seconds for commission to shout “185” he doesn’t touch the scale at all, scale doesn’t even settle. Just gives him the weight. Insanity…

It is comical the UFC can be the most political sports organization in the history of American sports for clear aims (Ali Act, WH event) while promoting a candidate w/ the most extreme agenda in 50 years and when called to task for that help, pretend they're helpless observers.

Ali Wong's ex-husband got off easier than Russini's current husband.

Now that this Vrabel-Russini thing is full blown, will DC chill tomorrow on the #UFC weigh-in show with Sanko or no
