ESPN reports that the WBA has temporarily suspended boxing judge Carlos Sucre after his scorecard for Saturday’s junior bantamweight world title unification fight with Juan Francisco Estrada and Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez.
Sucre is temporarily suspended pending an evaluation after his scorecard, 117-11 for Estrada, was brought into question. Estrada won via split decision. However, the other two scorecards reflected a much closer battle. Judge Jesse Reyes scored it 115-113 for Gonzalez and David Sutherland scored the fight 115-113 for Estrada.

#EstradaChocolatito2 We will temporarily suspend Carlos Sucre, while the Officials Committee evaluates his performance in the Chocolatito-Estrada 2 fight. We will give the judge the opportunity to speak about what happened

“We will give the judge the opportunity to speak about what happened,” wrote the WBA via statement on social media.
The fight was closely contested. It was a back and forth fight with both fighters having bright spots and low points. Thus, a lopsided scorecard in favor of one of the fighters would seem suspicious.
Payout Perspective:
A review of scores should probably happen after every event. There is a component of evaluating a judge for there scores based on the criteria and also a concern that there is no issue with fixing a match. Of course, there is also the third option of a judge just not paying attention to the fight.
