Report: UFC 257 draws 1.6M global PPV buys

January 25, 2021 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The Sports Business Journal reports that UFC 257 drew 1.2 million domestic PPV buys and another 400,000 international PPV buys for a total of 1.6 million.  The estimate would make it the second biggest PPV in UFC history.

In the main event this past Saturday, UFC 257 featured Dustin Poirier against the returning Conor McGregor.  Poirier scored the KO victory in the 2nd round.

UFC 229 in October 2018 drew 2.4 million PPV buys. Khabib Nurmogomedov defeated Conor McGregor in that fight.

Payout Perspective:

The PPV estimates reflect Conor McGregor’s star power.  The concern is that with the KO loss, his fame could be fleeting.  The hope for the company is that Dustin Poirier ascends as a top star for the company.  With a new PPV price starting with this PPV, the UFC made upwards of $112 million for this fight.  This number will likely be adjusted in the coming days but we should assume that this fight was a success.
