Michael Woods of NYFights.com is reporting that the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones, Jr. PPV drew over 1 million buys on Saturday night. The number could go higher according to the report.
Tyson-Jones, Jr. squared off in an exhibition which was determined to be a draw. In addition, Jake Paul knocked out Nate Robinson in the second round of their fight.
The event which was put on by Triller was thought to be a sideshow but gained a lot of buzz due in part to the fact of the return of Mike Tyson.
Payout Perspective:
The number has not been confirmed by Triller although one might believe they come out in the next couple days to announce numbers if it did so well. On Saturday, google trends had the event over 2 million searches although one might contend that this was due in part to the brutal Paul KO which went viral. With the PPV buys higher than most boxing PPVs going to date, one realizes that its likely we see Tyson, Jones, Jr. or both do this again once fans are allowed back in attendance. Is this a good idea to have older fighters continue to fight? Probably not but that is on the commissions to consider.
