Leon Edwards is out of his matchup with Khamzat Chimaev at UFC Fight Night 183 due to testing positive for COVID-19. Edwards has lost 12 pounds due to the virus and is recovering with hopes of fighting in early 2021.
Edwards and Chimaev was set for December 19th in a matchup of welterweights. Chimaev is the rising star having destroyed his opponents since his debut for the organization.
Edwards has been lobbying for a title shot for some time but has not found any fights to get him closer to a shot at Kamaru Usman.
Payout Perspective:
Bad news for Edwards who has not fought since 2019. Edwards was removed from the UFC rankings in October 2020 due to lack of inactivity but was put back in the rankings after he took the fight with Chimaev. Edwards is on an 8-fight winning streak. We shall see how much time it takes Edwards to get back into shape to fight and hopefully he’ll be back on a normal fighting schedule.
