Blaydes tests positive for COVID-19, main event for UFC on ESPN off

November 27, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The main event for Saturday’s UFC event at The Apex in Las Vegas is off after Curtis Blaydes tested positive for COVID-19.  His fight with Derrick Lewis will be re-scheduled according to multiple media reports.

Blaydes-Lewis was the marquee main event for UFC on ESPN 18 which has a rather unremarkable lineup after the headlining heavyweights.  The expected replacement main event is Devin Clark taking on Anthony Smith.

The main card will now consist of just 4 fights.

Payout Perspective:

This is a bad scenario for the UFC but at least it did not occur for one of its PPV.  We are seeing more and more issues with athletes testing positive for COVID-19 and it requires athletes and their coaches to be as vigilant as possible.
