Prior to Performance of the Night, UFC welterweight failed USADA test

November 19, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

UFC welterweight Jesse Ronson has accepted a 20-month suspension after he tested positive for a banned substance in out-of-competition testing prior to his July 22nd Fight Island win at UFC on ESPN 14.

The Canadian tested positive for the metabolite of metandienone.

Ronson earned a submission victory over Nicolas Dalby and earned a performance bonus as a result.

He was tested prior to his July 22nd fight but did not receive his results until after the fight.

Ronson had not fought in the UFC since 2014.  He had fought with several organizations since then including the PFL. He believes that the positive test was a result of a tainted supplement and that he was working with the UFC to find out where the substance may have been in.

Payout Perspective:

The news comes out prior to the suspension occurring.  Ronson wrote a lengthy explanation indicating that he was surprised by the positive result.  It is also noteworthy that his test is being reported to be on July 22nd but the event occurred on July 26th which means that the results were not received until after the fight.
