Fabricio Werdum signs with PFL

November 16, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Former UFC Heavyweight Fabricio Werdum has signed with the Professional Fighters League and will participate in the 2021 PFL Heavyweight Division this spring.

The 43-year-old Werdum ends a 13-year stint with the UFC/Strikeforce.  In his last 8 years, he had a 10-4 record in the UFC including winning the UFC Heavyweight Title against Cain Velasquez in June 2015.

The Ink has Dried! 🖊️ Welcome to PFL, Fabricio Werdum 🤝🇧🇷

Posted by PFL MMA on Monday, November 16, 2020

Werdum’s last fight earned him a Performance of the Night bonus when he submitted Alexander Gustafsson this past July.

The PFL intends to start its season this spring after taking a year off due to the pandemic.

Payout Perspective:

Despite his age, Werdum is still a viable fighter that can lend some name value as a former UFC champ to the PFL.  While his best days are past him, the signing is a good one for a company that will seek to draw some publicity after taking this year off.
