CSAC investigating Flores KO Saturday

November 10, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The California State Athletic Commission is withholding the purse payout of Alexander Flores after the heavyweight was knocked out by Luis Ortiz after just 45 seconds into the first round of their fight on PBC on Fox this past Saturday.

Flores, who is 18-3-1, but was considered a heavy underdog in this bout was hit with a bodyshot by Ortiz and crumpled to the ground.  Flores got up by 9 but the referee decided that he could not continue. Replays show that Ortiz’s bicep hit Flores in the face which may have contributed to the reason for the knockdown.

Payout Perspective:

While there may be some cause for investigation to ensure no impropriety, it did not look like Flores went down on purpose.  Certainly, the commission wants to make sure that Flores was not paid to go down and is likely making sure that there were no odd wagers that were put on either Ortiz or the round that the fight would stop.  MPO will follow.
