UFC heavyweight suspended 9 months by USADA

October 22, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

USADA announced that Chase Sherman accepted a nine-month sanction for a violation of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy.  Sherman tested positive for anastrozole as the result of an in-competition collection at the UFC May 13th event.

The 30-year-old heavyweight defeated Isaac Villanueva via KO at the event in Jacksonville, Florida.

It was Sherman’s first fight back in the UFC after 3 fights with the Island Fights organization.

The drug is used for breast cancer but in bodybuilding circles it’s a drug used to reduce the side effects of anabolic steroids.  It lowers estrogen levels in the body.

Payout Perspective:

The suspension is not a good look for the heavyweight trying to return to the UFC.  Prior to his 3 fights with Island Fights, he was cut after 3 straight losses.  Now his win will likely be overturned and one will question whether he took PEDs to gain an advantage.
