NAC issues suspensions, fines to four UFC fighters

September 4, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The Nevada State Athletic Commission handed out suspensions for four UFC fighters on Thursday.  Notably, UFC middleweight Deron Winn was suspended for nine months for testing positive for amphetamines.  He was also fined $1,800 and court costs in addition to providing a clean drug test upon return.

Winn’s drug test failure comes after his submission loss to Gerald Meerschaert on March 7th.  The suspension was mitigated for the fighter’s admission to violating the rules before agreeing to a settlement with the commission.  Winn is now 1-2 in the UFC but can return in December 2020.

The commission also set suspensions for 3 other UFC fighters:  Jamahal Hill, Tim Elliott and Luis Pena.  Hill received a 6-month suspension and Elliott and Pena received 4.5-month suspensions.  These suspensions were reduced from the minimum 9-months.  Each failed drug tests related to marijuana.  Pena explained on twitter the reason for his infraction.

For the record I didn’t smoke the day before, or of the fight. my levels were high from dabbing throughout camp for the first time in my career. Lesson learned. Take it from me don’t dab kids #nowyouknow and #knowingishalfthebattle #psa

For those, like me, who do not know what “dabbing” is, it’s a form of using marijuana. In addition, the three forfeited 15% of their purse.

Payout Perspective:

Winn’s suspension has not been addressed with the UFC’s Anti-Doping Program as of yet but they do not announce suspensions until they have been served. The other three were already known and likely not have additional time added on to their suspensions.

Dana White is such a MAGA stooge. He runs around every podcast talking about how he’s “not political” and how Donald Trump is “just his friend,” all while asking that same friend to help him write off more gambling losses and throwing him a UFC fight in front of the White House

New: UFC President Dana White has sent a letter to President Donald Trump asking him to help reverse the 90 percent limit on gambling loss deductions for US taxpayers that became law last year.

The issue has been a concern for both bettors and the gambling industry itself.
