Lesnar free agency builds speculation, interest from MMA

August 31, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

PWInsider.com first reported that Brock Lesnar is now a free agent which could mean a return to MMA.

The former UFC Heavyweight Champion was last in the Octagon at UFC 200 in July 2016 against Mark Hunt.  Despite winning, a drug test revealed a banned substance.  Lesnar retired from the Octagon soon thereafter and returned to the WWE.

According to reports, Lesnar is now without a WWE contract and is free to negotiate with any company.  This would make Lesnar’s return to MMA a possibility albeit a remote one.  The 43-year-old would have to be entered into the USADA database of fighters if he were to return to the UFC and he would likely have to sit out a number of months as a result of his drug test failure in his last fight.

Lesnar’s last appearance was at Wrestlemania this past April when he dropped his WWE Championship.

Payout Perspective:

Lesnar is 43-years-old and despite the fact that Jon Jones wants to fight him and in 2018 Daniel Cormier was teased to go at him, if he were to return Bellator would seem like a reasonable landing spot.  A matchup with Fedor would be a bonanza for the company looking to make waves as it looks to return from the pandemic. Despite being advanced in age, Bellator has a knack of promoting fights of older fighters and making them successful.
