PBC on Fox faced stiff competition Saturday night in its return to network boxing. The two-hour telecast drew 711,000 viewers in the first hour and 834,000 viewers in the second according to Nielsen via ShowBuzz Daily.
The numbers do not include the overrun which included the main event between Jamal James and Thomas Dulorme. James earned the victory over Dulorme.
The PGA Golf Championships on CBS and NHL hockey on NBC outdrew PBC Saturday night. Golf drew 3.2 million in the 8-9pm time slot and then 2.6 million in the 9-10pm slot opposite PBC on Fox. NHL hockey which featured a game between the Philadelphia Flyers and Tampa Bay Lightning drew 1.287 million viewers from 8-9pm, 1.251 million from 9-10pm and 1.316 in the 10-11pm slot.
In terms of demos PBC drew just 0.2 in the A18-49 and a 1 share in males 18-49 and over 50.
Payout Perspective:
Not the best of showings for the return of boxing to the network. Moreover, golf drew a 5 share in both the M18-49 and over 50 demo versus boxing. Granted, the novelty of golf in prime time (since the event took place on the west coast) plus the appeal of Tiger Woods likely was the reason. However, boxing is finding trouble grabbing an audience versus other sports.
