SmackDown viewers produce best 1st hour on Fox in weeks

June 28, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

WWE SmackDown on Friday night saw an increase in viewers as the first hour 2.271 million viewers and the second 2.076 million per Nielsen via ShowBuzz Daily.

The first hour of SmackDown on Fox saw the replay of The Undertaker-AJ Styles Boneyard Match from Wrestlemania this pat April.  Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 among its talent and staff this week, the live wrestling was truncated and the replay of the match helped bide time.

The second hour did see a drop off over 200,000 fans.  The good news is that the A18-49 demos were tied for the most on Friday on the networks and once again the M18-49 demo was the highest out of all viewership.

This week, ABC took the honors with the most viewers as CBS ran the Daytime Emmy Awards in prime time (which is something I never understood).  20/20 yielded the best overall ratings for Friday night with two episodes in excess of 3.3M.

SMACKDOWN OVER THE PAST 6 WEEKS

Date    Hour 1 Hour 2 A18-49            Household Rating

5/15     2.087   1.992   695,000           1.30

5/22     2.076   2.003   707,000           1.31

5/29     2.143   2.157   681,000           1.32

6/5       1.962   1.908   656,000           1.27

6/12     2.036   1.996   655,000           1.35

6/19     2.147   2.031   664,000           1.34

6/26     2.271   2.076

Payout Perspective:

Even without a lot of live action on Friday, Hour 1 did the best in over 6 weeks and a solid average.  One might expect a higher viewership in the 18-49 demo.  The ratings reflect either an interest in the Undertaker’s last match after he officially announced his retirement or viewers that usually watch the CBS lineup of Hawaii Five-O, Magnum P.I. and Blue Bloods moved over to Fox.
