The Nevada State Athletic Commission are looking into the patches worn on the uniform of veteran UFC cutman Don House on Saturday night. The patches reference a right-wing internet conspiracy theory QAnon.
The most notable conspiracy coming out of this online site is the PizzaGate scandal which almost led to a mass shooting as the belief that Hilary Clinton and high-ranking Democratic Party officials led a human trafficking and child sex ring out of a Washington D.C. pizza shop. In December 2016, an individual shot an AR-15-style rifle into the restaurant based on the belief that this was actually true. The conspiracy was debunked as false.
The cutman wore the Q symbol and WWG1WGA patches during UFC on ESPN 11 on Saturday held at the UFC Apex. House did not ask for approval to place the patches on his uniform which is likely a violation of the policy wherein Reebok is the official sponsor of UFC apparel in the Octagon. The UFC denied any link to QAnon and ordered House not to wear the patch again.
Also, of note, Jackson Wink MMA flew a flag with the letter Q on the roof of the gym in Albuquerque, New Mexico for a brief time before it was taken down. The owners professed that they did not know who put it there or why it was flown. The Q stood for the conspiracy theory site backed by House.
House stated that he regrets wearing the patches although he likes the message.
Payout Perspective:
Taking a step back here. House had to have thought about this enough to obtain the patch and then sew it on his uniform with the knowledge that it would be seen by a television audience. Furthermore, if he is at all intelligent about that organization, he would not have placed it on his uniform unless he was willing to take on the consequences that it would bring. But he was willing to do that for the visibility it would bring. Therefore, his regrets are not real. The commission should fine and suspend House from working events within the state.
