It appears that the end of the stay-at-home orders in Nevada will be lifted starting with the UFC event at The Apex on May 30th as the promotion along with Top Rank Boxing have requested removal of restrictions to hold events in the near future. The commission will convene on Wednesday, May 30th.
In the latest agenda from the Nevada Athletic Commission, Zuffa and Top Rank have requested permits to hold events without fans in Nevada. As previously indicated by Dana White earlier this week, the UFC will be holding an event at The Apex May 30th. Top Rank Boxing is also applying for a permit to hold an event in the near future. According to agenda, the event will be held at the MGM Grand on June 9th.
Also, on the agenda for the commission will be approval of COVID-19 protocols for events held without the presence of a live audience. One might infer that the commission will have to pass these protocols prior to Zuffa or Top Rank receiving their permits.
Payout Perspective:
One would have to believe that the commission will allow Zuffa and Top Rank the permits and agree to a set protocol for COVID-19 testing. Even though its not yet known whether the Zuffa protocols in Florida worked, they are a footprint to how combat sports may get back to having events even without fans. Expect the passage of safety regulations by the commission and Nevada back in action for combat sports by Wednesday’s meeting.
