UFC welterweight Lyman Good has been diagnosed with COVID-19 according to a report from ESPN. Good was scheduled to fight at UFC 249 on April 18th but his fight with Belal Muhammad was called off before the cancellation.
Good spoke with Ariel Helwani about testing positive for COVID-19. He indicated that as soon as he found out, he let everyone know. Good indicated that he sparred with a close set of training partners to prevent infection.
The welterweight recalled coping with the illness saying that he felt lethargic and was run down while training. Good noted that he didn’t want to let everyone know to “fan the fear” of the virus.
Good described taking test at a drive-thru testing location. He said that Good and his girlfriend both tested positive. He now has tested negative and will be working with the Red Cross to donate his antibodies in able to help others with the virus.
Payout Perspective:
It appears that Good and his girlfriend will be able to recover and fight again which is good news. Not good news is the fact that his positive test went under the wire of the UFC. Or, if the UFC knew, they did not disclose it. Either way, it’s a concern that with events going forward, there may be others out there that are asymptomatic or will not disclose anything to the UFC in order to fight. Yet again, another logistical headache for the company as it tries to return.
