WWE ruled essential business in Florida

April 14, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The state of Florida has determined WWE an essential business and is allowed to do live shows.  The ruling opens up the potential for other sports, including the UFC to come to Florida to hold events.

An April 9 memo from Governor Ron DeSantis stated:

“Employees at a professional sports and media production with a national audience – including any athletes, entertainers, production team, executive team, media team and any other necessary to facilitate including services supporting such production – only if the location is closed to the public.”

A spokesperson from DeSantis’ office told ESPN that the services were “critical to Florida’s economy.”

Payout Perspective:

Is this flouting the essential business provision requiring only those services needed during this pandemic to remain open?  Of course.  Sports and/or sports entertainment is not needed at this time but it appears that Florida will take its chances.  We should note that a WWE employee has tested positive for COVID-19.  Despite this, the WWE has been green-lighted to go forward with shows.
