WWE employee diagnosed with COVID-19

April 12, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The WWE notified its staff and performers that an employee of the company was diagnosed with COVID-19.  No name was identified although the internal email obtained by wrestling web site Fightful reports that the person is “not an in-ring performer.”

According to the email the WWE believes that the performer had limited exposure to others and is “feeling much better.”  A statement from Pro Wrestling Sheet indicated that, [t]he employee had no contact with anyone from WWE since being exposed to those two individuals…”

The individual and their roommate “became symptomatic in the days following exposure to two people working in acute health care on the evening of March 26, after WWE’s TV production on a closed set was already complete.”

Payout Perspective:

The WWE will begin airing new editions of its weekly shows despite this news.  While the employee, based on the news, appears to be recovering, it’s a stark reminder that the pandemic continues.  I’m a little surprised that the WWE continues to push forward despite this news.  Hopefully, no one else falls ill to COVID-19.
