USADA continues testing athletes amid Coronavirus concerns

March 22, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Despite the lockdown going across the United States, USADA continues to test UFC athletes.  On Tuesday, USADA announced plans to continue to conduct drug testing of fighters.

USADA will continue its testing of athletes in other sports including the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

USADA announced new protocols in keeping athletes and doping control officers safe during the pandemic.  These include the use of protective gear as well as asking the officers and athletes to wash their hands before testing occurs.

Payout Perspective:

This is an ancillary outcome of the UFC forging ahead with plans to hold events during this time of uncertainty.  While continued testing helps the employment of the officers, it is putting people in peril.  Not only does this give a greater possibility of the spread of the Coronavirus, it also uses a vital supply that is in need:  protective masks and gloves.  Maybe an afterthought, these supplies are of a huge importance at this time and it seems ridiculous to continue testing at this point. One would think that they could suspend testing at least until April to help flatten the curve.
