On Tuesday, the UFC announced that Michel Prazeres accepted a two year sanction for violation of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy. Prazeres, a UFC welterweight, “tested positive for exogenous boldenone and its metabolite 5β-androst-1-en-17β-ol-3-one.”
Per the USADA statement:
Prazeres, 38, tested positive for exogenous boldenone and its metabolite 5β-androst-1-en-17β-ol-3-one as the result of two out-of-competition urine samples he provided on March 9, 2019. Confirmation of the positive test was achieved through additional analysis using the sensitive isotope ratio mass spectrometry (GC/C/IRMS) method, which reported laboratory results consistent with the exogenous origin of boldenone. Boldenone is a non-Specified Substance in the class of Anabolic Agents and is prohibited at all times under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy and UFC Prohibited List.
Boldenone is a steroid that increases muscular endurance.
Prazeres has been with the UFC since May 2013. He was 10-3 in the UFC and had an 8-fight win streak until losing to Ismail Naurdiev, his most recent fight, at UFC Fight Night 145 this past February.
Prazeres, 38, will not be eligible to return to the UFC until March 9, 2021.
Payout Perspective:
In all likelihood, the suspension will end Prazeres’ UFC career. Overall, he was 26-3 professionally with all 3 losses occurring in the UFC. Notably, USADA confirmed the positive urine sample through the sensitive isotope ratio mass spectrometry method. This testing method ensured the accuracy of the finding.
