WWE chooses LA for Wrestlemania 37

February 10, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

On Monday, the WWE announced that WrestleMania 37 will take place at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California.  The event will take place on March 28, 2021.

The last time the marquee-event for the company took place in Southern California was at the Staples Center in 2005.  This year, the event takes place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.  According to the LA Times, SoFi Stadium has “seating capacity of 70,000 for football games, but can be expanded to 100,000, which is considered for WrestleMania.”

Cities and stadiums have utilized the event as a test run for hosting the Super Bowl.  Tampa is the setting for 2021’s Super Bowl while SoFi Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Chargers, is the host in 2022.

Payout Perspective:

Hosting a WrestleMania has demonstrated positive economic impacts on the city and the businesses within as it brings in an influx of tourists for a big event.  Not only does the WWE raked in the revenue from the event as well as ancillary WrestleMania activities, but smaller independent promotions hold their own events around the city taking advantage of the built-in ecosystem from the activities throughout the 4 or 5 days pro wrestling fans converge on the area.
