The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Conor McGregor helped generate $86.4 million for the city of Las Vegas per a commissioned study from the UFC.
The 2018 economic impact study looked at the affect McGregor had on metro Las Vegas as he fought Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. Of course, the UFC was bullish on the economic impact for McGregor’s return on Saturday at UFC 246.
Per a study from Applied Analysis, the bitter feud between Khabib and Conor drew 20,000 fans for a gate of $17.2 million which equated to $1.4 million in ticket taxes and Nevada Athletic Commission fees.
Per the Las Vegas Review-Journal report the annual household income of about half of the fans at UFC 229 were $100,000 or more and 2/5 spent more than $2,000 on nongaming activities in Vegas. The report claims that Vegas collected $1.8 million in taxes spent by visitors. Applied Analysis states that visitors contributed to $500,00 toward gaming-related taxes during UFC 229.
Payout Perspective:
While the report may be skewed based on the fact it was commissioned by the UFC, there’s no denying the economic impact that a big fight has on Vegas and the McGregor brand brings in more people to Vegas. This aids the UFC when it comes to cache with the city as it is one of the big economic drivers for metropolitan Vegas. While numbers might not be as big as UFC 229, expect big figures coming out of UFC 246.
