UFC welterweight given 6 month sanction for cocaine and Fentanyl

January 11, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Earlier this week, the UFC issued a statement in which Dequan Townsend accepted a six-month sanction for violation of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy after testing positive for a metabolite of cocaine and norfentanyl, a metabolite of fentanyl and its derivatives.

Townsend’s six-month period of ineligibility began on June 28, 2019.

Townsend, a 33-year-old welterweight lost to Dalcha Lungiambula via TKO in the 3rd round at UFC on ESPN 3 this past June.

Payout Perspective:

Townsend could come back to the UFC if the company wants him as he is now eligible.  It’s not a good look if the first fight you have in the UFC you are flagged by USADA.  Cocaine and Fentanyl are not products are not necessarily performance enhancing but its still a concern.
