Wilder-Fury II officially announced, Fox-ESPN+ set to partner on PPV

December 27, 2019 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

On Friday, the rematch between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury became official as the two will square off at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on February 22nd as part of a joint effort with Fox and ESPN+.

Both networks will produce shoulder programming for the event with both offering the PPV.

The fight brings together Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions and Bob Arum’s Top Rank Boxing in a rare inter-promotional matchup.

The biggest heavyweight fight in recent history will happen in February and expectations have it hitting the at or above the 1 million buy benchmark.

Payout Perspective:

With so much money to be made, the usually opposing promotions were able to carve out a deal with their respective broadcast partners.  That being said, the hope is that the parties can work together without incident.  You might recall that the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight in 2015 resulted in a lawsuit between Showtime and HBO.  Yet, the partnership should be a positive sign that more fights between the promotions could be made.
